Mascarat sits at the northern edge of the municipality of Altea on the Costa Blanca, close to the boundary with Calp. The area takes its name from the Mascarat gorge, a dramatic ravine cut through the foothills of the Sierra de Bernia, crossed by the coastal road and its well-known bridges and tunnels.
