Manilva is the westernmost municipality of Malaga province, on the Costa del Sol between Estepona and the border with Cadiz province. The old town sits a little inland on a rise above the coast, with whitewashed streets and a long tradition of grape growing. Its vineyards and the annual wine harvest festival remain part of local life. Down by the sea, Sabinillas has a promenade, a sandy beach and everyday shops and cafés used by residents all year round.
The best-known spot is La Duquesa, where the marina at Puerto de la Duquesa is lined with bars and restaurants and sits beside the eighteenth-century Castillo de la Duquesa. The area also has golf, coastal walks and the old sulphur baths of La Hedionda, and life here tends to be quieter than on the busier stretches of the coast further east. For flights from the UK, Malaga airport is the main gateway, while Gibraltar airport is also within reach. The A-7 and AP-7 run along the coast for onward travel.
