Las Lagunas is the largest residential and commercial area of the Mijas municipality on the Costa del Sol. It sits on the lower ground between the hillside village of Mijas Pueblo and the coastal town of Fuengirola, with the two areas running into one another. Most of the municipality's everyday life happens here, with shops, supermarkets, schools, health centres, sports facilities and a good choice of cafés and restaurants.
Las Lagunas is a working Spanish town where residents live all year, rather than a seasonal resort. Many people who live here enjoy that day-to-day feel while staying within easy reach of the beaches and promenade at Fuengirola. The whitewashed streets of Mijas Pueblo, the golf courses of the Mijas area and the mountains behind the coast are all close by. Málaga Airport is a short drive away and has frequent flights from across the UK. The coastal train line from Fuengirola links the area with the airport and Málaga city.
