Fontanares lies in the peaceful uplands of Lorca, one of Murcia's largest municipalities, known for its pine forests, clean air and slow rural pace. Lorca town is about 40 minutes' drive away. Called the "City of the Hundred Shields", it is famous for its hilltop castle, baroque architecture and Holy Week celebrations. The town offers supermarkets, a shopping centre, a cinema, golf and a train station.
